British Attepmts to Control Its Colonies After the defeat of the French during the heptad Years War, British leaders felt the need to overthrow control over their empire. Laws regulating imperial trade and gliding had already been primed(p) on the colonies, but American colonists were ill-famed for evading these regulations. From the British point of view, it was only fitting that American colonists should turn start their fair share of the costs for their own defense.
